Appointment of Iran’s special representative for Caspian Sea affairs
Following the decision of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Deputy Council to transfer the Caspian Secretariat to the Deputy for Legal and International Affairs, Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi issued a decree appointing Kazem Gharib Abadi, Deputy for Legal and International Affairs, as the “Special Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran for Caspian Sea Affairs and the Working Group of Senior Officials on Caspian Sea Matters” while retaining his current role.
In this decree, the Foreign Minister wished Gharib Abadi success in advancing the country’s national interests and fulfilling related missions, including Iran’s negotiations with Caspian littoral states on various legal, international, political, security-defense, counter-terrorism, organized crime, narcotics, environmental, commercial, economic, scientific research, disaster response, transportation and transit, fishing, shipping, and tourism issues, in coordination with relevant ministries, organizations, and domestic institutions.
