Fatal police shooting claims life of 65-year-old U.S. citizen

The Indiana State Police issued a statement reporting that officers fatally shot a man outside the Hendricks County Courthouse.

According to Nation Now, the shooting of Mark Water, a 65-year-old American citizen, occurred on Monday noon local time during the transfer of prisoners to the courthouse.

The Indiana State Police stated that they are reviewing footage from surveillance cameras at the scene to clarify the details of the incident.

The statement noted that the officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave.

The number of bullets fired at Mark Water and other details related to the fatal shooting have not been disclosed.

Police reported that no one, including officers or bystanders, was injured in the incident.

According to the police, Water was shot and killed after firing at the officers.

Water’s family reported that he had been deeply affected by the loss of his two grandchildren—a three-year-old and a two-month-old—in a fatal car accident in February of the previous year.

The accident occurred during a police car chase, where the vehicle carrying Water’s grandchildren collided with a car being pursued by police. The two-month-old died at the scene, and the three-year-old succumbed to severe burns in the hospital.

Following the accident, Water suffered from a significant mental health crisis. His family noted that he was diagnosed with multiple system atrophy, a condition causing constant dizziness, balance issues, and speech difficulties. This, combined with the trauma of losing his grandchildren, led to severe psychological distress.

Water’s family suggested that he may have intended to target an individual involved in the accident, who was being transferred to the courthouse by police. They also speculated that Water might have deliberately provoked the police to shoot him, potentially as an act of suicide, given his mental state.
