Execution of U.S. veteran in Florida

On Friday, May 2, 2025, the state of Florida executed Jeffrey Hutchinson, a 62-year-old army veteran, by lethal injection.

According to the Associated Press, Hutchinson, who had served in the Gulf War and suffered from severe mental health issues as a result, consistently maintained his innocence.

Hutchinson claimed that two unknown assailants had framed him in a conspiracy to silence him after he exposed issues related to the Gulf War, including veterans’ illnesses.

The U.S. Supreme Court rejected his final appeal without comment.

Hutchinson was the fourth person executed in Florida this year. The state has scheduled another execution for May 15, 2025.

Since the start of 2025, 15 executions have been carried out in the United States.
