Mexico strongly rejects Trump's request

Mexico’s President announced that she has rejected Donald Trump’s proposal to send U.S. troops to Mexican soil to combat drug cartels.

Speaking at a university in Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum responded to a Friday report by The Wall Street Journal about U.S.-Mexico relations amid the Trump administration’s efforts to curb illegal immigration and combat the flow of fentanyl into the U.S. through its southern borders.

The report claimed that Trump had proposed sending U.S. troops to Mexico and Sheinbaum had agreed.

However, Mexico’s President clarified: “Do you know what I told Trump? I said, ‘No, President Trump!’ You cannot violate Mexico’s territory. Our sovereignty is not for sale; it is cherished and defended.”

She continued: “It’s not necessary! We can cooperate, but you stay in your territory, and we stay in ours. We can share information, but we will never accept the presence of the U.S. military on our soil.”

In recent months, the U.S. military presence along its southern border with Mexico has steadily increased, following Trump’s January order to strengthen the military’s role in controlling the flow of migrants.
