According to France24 television, as Washington announced a critical stage in Ukraine peace talks, Trump simultaneously called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to halt attacks and agree to end the war that began with Moscow’s invasion in 2022.
Trump’s remarks came a day after his meeting with Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the funeral ceremony for Pope Francis, the leader of the Catholic world.
Speaking after returning from the Vatican while in New Jersey, Trump responded to a reporter’s question, “Do you think Zelenskyy is ready to surrender Crimea?” by saying, “I think so.”
He added that during his talks with Zelenskyy in the Vatican, they briefly discussed the fate of the Black Sea peninsula, which Moscow annexed in 2014.
