Interior Minister: Flames from Shahid Rajaee Port fire have been extinguished in most areas

Eskandar Momeni, the Interior Minister, provided an update on the latest situation at Shahid Rajaee Port, stating: “The security of the area has been fully ensured with the presence of police forces, port security personnel, Basij forces, and others.”

The Interior Minister said: “The flames from the fire have been extinguished in most affected areas and fully contained across all areas, with forces currently engaged in mop-up operations.”

He added: “The committee investigating the causes of the incident has held several meetings so far, and lapses in adhering to safety protocols have been identified. Investigations are ongoing, and some responsible parties have already been summoned.”

The Interior Minister noted: “Damage assessments are underway, and the process of compensating for losses will begin.”

The deployment of 40 ambulances, one ambulance bus, one helicopter, two marine ambulances, and the participation of seven hospitals were among the key health sector measures in response to the explosion and fire at Shahid Rajaee Port in Hormozgan Province.

According to Vabda, a total of 1,237 people affected by the explosion and fire were referred to medical centers, with 165 admitted to specialized wards, 35 to intensive care units, 1,071 treated and discharged, 10 transferred to other facilities, 162 surgeries performed, and 40 fatalities reported, as per Hormozgan Governorate statistics.

Mojtaba Khaledi, spokesperson for the Red Crescent, provided details on the relief efforts at Shahid Rajaee Port, stating: "As soon as the incident occurred, our first operational team, located near the port, immediately took initial actions and called for an urgent meeting of the Red Crescent Operations Center."

He added: "Given the scale of the incident, which was evident from the initial footage sent by our colleagues, Hormozgan Province was immediately placed on high alert and red status."

The Red Crescent spokesperson continued: "So far, 50 operational teams from the Red Crescent are present at the scene, including 46 search and rescue teams and two mental health support teams providing psychological assistance."

Khaledi noted: "In addition, 50 more teams in neighboring provinces and Tehran are on standby to assist with the potential transfer of injured individuals or to replace other forces if needed."

Regarding the number of casualties, he said: "The incident has resulted in approximately 1,200 injuries so far, all of whom have been transferred to hospitals, and we hope for their speedy recovery."

The total number of deceased is 25. To date, the identities of 10 deceased have been confirmed, including 2 women and 8 men.

Eskandar Momeni, Interior Minister: Firefighting operations began yesterday afternoon, and since last night, rescue teams from Tehran, neighboring provinces, and nearby cities have arrived at the scene with full force.

Initially, a decision was made to isolate the affected area, which was successfully executed, preventing the fire from spreading to other areas.

According to the latest reports, approximately 80% of the fire has been extinguished, with only about 20% remaining. This is one of the final stages of the firefighting operation, and the last actions will be completed within a few hours.

The Director General of Crisis Management of Hormozgan Governorate announced the closure of all schools, universities, and administrative offices in Bandar Abbas County on Sunday, April 27, 2025.

This decision was made following the explosion incident in the Shahid Rajai Port area and the increased levels of pollutants in the urban environment.

Red Crescent statement on the latest relief efforts at Shahid Rajaei Port

The Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) issued a statement highlighting the on-site presence of its president at the scene of the explosion at Shahid Rajaei Port, noting that 60 relief workers are currently assisting victims in the area. Emergency medical teams from eight provinces have been placed on standby for potential deployment and relief operations.

The IRCS statement regarding its latest actions in response to the explosion at Shahid Rajaei Port in Bandar Abbas is as follows:

1        1 - Following the explosion at Shahid Rajaei Port in Bandar Abbas, IRCS operational teams were immediately dispatched to the affected area for assessment, evaluation, and relief efforts.

2         After an initial assessment and declaration of the situation, the head of the IRCS Relief and Rescue Organization, accompanied by rapid response teams, and subsequently the IRCS president, traveled to Hormozgan province to oversee on-site relief operations for the victims.

3         Currently, 12 IRCS relief teams, comprising 60 highly skilled operational personnel, are present in the area. Five teams are operating inside the port, and seven teams are providing assistance outside the port.

4         With the incident declared a red-level emergency, all IRCS relief forces in Hormozgan province, the Relief and Rescue Organization, the Health and Treatment Deputy, and the IRCS headquarters are on 100% standby.

5         The provinces of Bushehr, Fars, Kerman, Sistan and Baluchestan, Tehran, the independent Kish center, and the IRCS youth and volunteer organizations have been placed on orange-level alert. They are on standby for potential deployment to the area and for transferring the injured to medical centers using IRCS ambulances.

6         IRCS rapid response teams, five relief helicopters, and eight emergency medical teams (RDH) from the provinces of Hormozgan, Bushehr, Fars, Kerman, Sistan and Baluchestan, Isfahan, Yazd, and Tehran are on standby for deployment to the area to provide assistance. Additionally, IRCS Sahr teams (Psychosocial Support Ambassadors) are prepared to offer psychological and social support to the families of missing persons, and volunteer teams are ready to assist with family reunification and locating potential missing individuals.

Interior Minister: The top priority is saving lives and providing rescue and relief

Eskandar Momeni, the Interior Minister, who traveled to Bandar Abbas to assess the Shahid Rajaei Port incident firsthand, said upon arrival: "An aerial inspection was conducted; unfortunately, the fire has not yet been fully extinguished."

Expressing sympathy with the families affected by the incident, he added: "The top priority is saving the lives of our compatriots and focusing on rescue and relief efforts. At the same time, extinguishing the fire, preventing its spread to other areas, and investigating the causes of this incident are also under consideration."

Momeni continued: "We have requested that firefighting equipment, rescue and relief supplies, ambulances, and related resources be provided in sufficient quantities from surrounding cities and other provinces."

The Interior Minister emphasized: "In the first step, every necessary action for rescue, relief, and fire suppression will be taken."

Director General of Hormozgan Crisis Management: The number of injured in the explosion at Shahid Beheshti Port has surpassed 700, with the possibility of further increases. Relief teams are currently assessing the situation. 

All injured individuals have been transferred to hospitals across Bandar Abbas, and there are no issues regarding their treatment. All hospitals are on full alert. 

To meet the blood needs of the injured, blood supplies have been sent to Bandar Abbas from Gilan, Tehran, Yazd, Hamedan, Kerman, North Khorasan, and Isfahan provinces.

Following an incident at Shahid Rajaei Port today, all equipment and personnel, including military, law enforcement, and members of the provincial crisis management team, are present at the scene. Medical centers are on full alert, and the transfer of the injured is underway. 

The Crisis Management Organization has urged media outlets to avoid speculation and refrain from republishing unofficial news until the fire is extinguished and the cause and extent of the incident are clarified. 

According to the Government Information Council's statement, Mr. Mohammad Ashouri, Governor of Hormozgan, and Mr. Mehrdad Hassanzadeh, Director General of Provincial Crisis Management, have been designated as the official spokespersons for the incident. Information regarding the scale of the incident and the number of injured will only be communicated through them. 

Furthermore, other national and provincial authorities are requested to refrain from media interviews to ensure the rapid and accurate dissemination of news and information.

Increase in fatalities from the explosion at Shahid Rajai Port in Bandar Abbas

Director General of Hormozgan Crisis Management: "Following the explosion, all agencies were mobilized, and the situation is now under control. Several helicopters from neighboring provinces have been dispatched to the area. The number of injured continues to rise, but many are being treated and released on an outpatient basis. All provincial facilities have been mobilized, and we face no issues. Unfortunately, five people have lost their lives so far."

Deployment of firefighters and medical staff from the Ninth Fighter Base to assist victims of the Shahid Rajaee Port incident

Brigadier General Mohsen Heidarian, Commander of the Shahid Abdulkarimi Air Base in Bandar Abbas: From the first moments of this tragic incident, 20 firefighters from the Shahid Abdulkarimi Air Base, along with four fire trucks and all necessary equipment, were dispatched to the scene to provide assistance and extinguish the fire.

Additionally, four ambulances and approximately 15 medical personnel from the base, equipped with full facilities, were sent to Shahid Rajaee Port to provide aid, treat, and transfer the injured. Those requiring further medical assistance are being transported to various hospitals across the city.

Attorney General’s Office: Legal action will be taken against those disrupting public psychological security with false content, misinformation, and insults

Following the explosion at Shahid Rajaee Port, the Attorney General’s Office issued a statement urging virtual activists and media outlets in the country to refrain from addressing topics that undermine the psychological security of society.

In the statement, the Attorney General’s Office emphasized that legal action will be taken, in accordance with the law, against individuals who disrupt public psychological security by spreading false content, disseminating misinformation, or engaging in insults.

The statement also instructed prosecutors across the country to take necessary measures to swiftly, effectively, and decisively deal with those who exploit cyberspace regarding this devastating incident to undermine public psychological security and cause public distress through the publication of false content and misinformation.

Currently, seven Red Crescent operational teams are present at the site to provide assistance to those affected.

Fifteen ambulances and four ambulance buses from Bandar Abbas, Lar, and the province have been dispatched to the scene.

The Larstan air ambulance helicopter has been deployed to assist potential casualties.

Explosion occurred within a 2-kilometer radius of the customs administrative building

Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Service: The evacuation of all trucks that have completed customs procedures from the Bandar Abbas port area is underway.

The explosion likely originated from a depot of hazardous goods and chemical materials stored in the port area.

The explosion occurred in the Sina container area of Shahid Rajaee Port, within a 2-kilometer radius of the customs administrative building.

National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company: Explosion unrelated to refineries or fuel tanks

The National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company announced regarding the explosion at Shahid Rajaee Port: Following reports of an explosion and fire in the vicinity of Shahid Rajaee Port, it is hereby clarified that this incident is unrelated to refineries, fuel storage tanks, or the oil distribution network and pipelines associated with this company in the area. Currently, operations at the facilities located in the Bandar Abbas region are continuing without interruption.

Additionally, the firefighting and emergency response equipment of all oil companies in the region are on standby and providing services to assist in managing the incident, under the coordination of the Ports and Maritime Organization.
