The significance of the Head of Judiciary’s visit to China

In an interview with Mizan, Zohrevand, a representative of Tehran in the Iranian Parliament, commented on Chief Justice Mohseni Ejei’s visit to China, stating: “The visit of Mohseni Ejei, as the Chief Justice, is highly significant for two reasons. First, he is one of the country’s top officials. Second, China, our counterpart, is keen to extend the 25-year agreement and is our primary partner in the oil sector. Iran, China, and Russia share a common approach to the changing dynamics of international relations and face a common threat in the form of the United States.”
He added: “This visit is important in several key dimensions. In terms of domestic relations, organizations like the SCO and BRICS can have a significant impact. The judiciary, alongside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, can play a crucial role in shaping and guiding these relations, diversifying bilateral ties. For instance, China’s judicial system has experiences we can learn from, and we, too, have experiences to share. This exchange can reduce costs and enhance efficiency in our judicial system.”
The Tehran representative further noted: “When we talk about bilateral relations between two countries, it’s not limited to one aspect. We can view these relations from various angles, and one critical angle is certainly the relationship between the judiciaries of Iran and China.”
Regarding the judiciary’s role in upholding the rights of Iranians abroad, Zohrevand said: “While the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is responsible for defending and managing the rights of Iranians and nationals abroad, other institutions, such as the judiciary, can also play a significant role. A judicial institution similar to Iran’s judiciary exists in China, and our judiciary can engage in positive and productive interactions with its Chinese counterpart. This visit is highly significant in terms of securing the rights of Iranian nationals and can greatly assist the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in this regard.”
In conclusion, he emphasized: “This visit is important from various perspectives, providing a form of deterrence and strengthening relations. On one hand, we can solidify our ties with like-minded countries like China. On the other, we can create deterrence against adversaries. Overall, this visit is highly significant and is considered a very positive step.”
