New scandal for the White House; Trump made a phone call to the wrong person
According to the Independent newspaper, Trump was supposed to talk to South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster on the phone, but his call was connected to his former national security adviser, Herbert McMaster.
As soon as the US President realized that the person on the phone was not the Carolina governor, he criticized Herbert McMaster in the same short call.
Four sources familiar with the White House scandal told CBS News that the call was from the White House and that the voice on the other end of the line told McMaster to wait to speak to the president.
The call was particularly strange because McMaster was fired after just 13 months in the job in March 2018.
Even more strange was that just days earlier, on March 2, 2025, Trump had harshly criticized McMaster on social media, calling him “weak and a loser.”
Trump’s comments came in response to McMaster’s skepticism on “60 Minutes” about Trump’s approach to negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
CBS News, citing two sources who were not authorized to discuss the president's private conversations, reported that when Trump came on the line, he said, "Henry..." before beginning his conversation.
McMaster immediately recognized the president's voice but quickly realized that he was not the one receiving the call.
The former national security adviser immediately introduced himself and said, "Mr. President, I'm Herbert McMaster."
Trump responded by asking, "Why would we call Herbert McMaster?" and then hung up, according to two sources familiar with the matter.
It is not yet clear which member of Trump's team made the mistaken call, but one source told CBS that it was a Trump adviser who works with him.
The White House declined to comment on Trump's personal calls or confirm whether such a call had taken place.
