June 3rd, early presidential elections in South Korea
Yonhap News Agency added that the government officially announced June 3rd as the date for early presidential elections on Tuesday, following the removal of Yoon Seok Yul from the position of president.
Therefore, the decision to announce this time was made after a cabinet meeting and following the announcement of the Constitutional Court's ruling to remove Yoon.
Acting President Han Duck Soo apologized for the concerns that have arisen over the past four months due to the domestic developments in the country due to Yoon's premature declaration of martial law, saying: "Now we must quickly heal the wounds and consequences of recent events and direct the country's energy to move the Republic of Korea forward."
According to the South Korean constitution, the government is required to hold early elections within 60 days of a presidential vacancy.
