The deplorable conditions of Palestinian women in Israeli prisons
According to Shahab News Agency, the Prisoners and Freedmen Affairs Board reported the deplorable situation of Palestinian women in the Israeli prison in Damon Prison during the holy month of Ramadan.
The women prisoners told the lawyers of the " Palestinian Prisoners and Freedmen Affairs Organization " that the prison guards announce false iftar dates during Ramadan and, in addition, give them spoiled food.
The lawyer of the Prisoners and Freedmen Organization said: "Noor Muhammad", a female prisoner from Nablus, has been in Damon Prison since December 5, 2024.
During a meeting with the lawyer of the organization, this female prisoner said: The conditions in the prison are very bad for the prisoners, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, and the prisoners are not given suhoor.
The Palestinian Prisoners' and Exiles' Organization also stated: "Karmel Khawaja", who is nineteen years old and has been in prison since March 2, 2025, complains about the poor conditions of the prison and the severe shortage of clothing for prisoners.
According to the organization's report, "Fida Assaf", a 49-year-old prisoner from Qalqilya, is suffering from leukemia and has not received any medical treatment, hospitalization, or medication since his arrest two weeks ago.
The Palestinian Prisoners' and Exiles' Organization also mentioned in its statement other prisoners' accounts that they have been harassed by prison guards, and that prison officials have also announced the wrong time for breaking the fast and announcing the time for the Maghrib prayer at 5:30 p.m. Prison guards deliberately inspect the rooms during the morning prayer and throw the morning prayer on the floor. They also give the prisoners spoiled and inedible food.
Yesterday, Riyad al-Ashqar, director of the Palestinian Prisoners’ Studies Center, said: “Female prisoners are deprived of the simplest living conditions and are exposed to abuse by the occupiers. They deliberately move these prisoners between cells in Damon prison, and this action is in line with their harassment.”
He added: “The occupiers give the female prisoners little food, especially during Ramadan, when this amount of food is not enough to eat iftar and suhoor. They are also not allowed to use hot water and are deprived of visits.”
Al-Ashqar continued: “Women’s privacy is violated by the occupiers, their rooms are searched without prior notice, their personal belongings are searched, they are subjected to all kinds of obscenities and insults, and they are beaten.”
