Baghaei: Negotiations under pressure and threats are meaningless
In response to the question of whether Iran had received a letter from Trump, the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: No, no letter was received.
In another part, regarding the US threats against Iran regarding negotiations, Baghaei said: Various officials in our country have spoken about this; threatening to use force is prohibited under international law and is a violation; grumbling on the table and expressions like this mean threatening to use force, but the Iranian people have always resisted in order to advance their goals.
He added: The nature of US foreign policy is bullying and violates international law, and the threat of war shows America’s indifference to negotiations.
The spokesman for the diplomatic service emphasized: Iran has never deviated from negotiations in the true sense and has stated that negotiations under pressure and threats are meaningless; our position on this matter is clear, and the Foreign Minister announced Iran’s position on negotiations for the umpteenth time last night.
In response to Mizan’s question about the latest status of the case of the killing of two Iranian citizens in France and the disappearance of an Iranian citizen in France, Baghaei said: Two Iranian citizens were murdered in France about 3 months ago during an operation whose dimensions are still unclear to us; it is not clear to us whether this was a terrorist operation or an operation motivated by racial hatred.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also stated: We have been following up on this matter continuously, both through the French Embassy in Tehran and through our own embassy in Paris, but unfortunately we have not yet received any details in this regard, and it is not clear to us whether the investigation into the murders has begun or not; this is a demand that we will continue to raise with the French authorities.
He also noted: Regarding the second case, unfortunately, we were informed that an Iranian citizen living in France, a middle-aged woman and university professor, has disappeared; we have not yet been able to receive accurate information about the situation of this woman from the relevant French authorities; we spoke with the French Embassy yesterday and our consular section followed up; we hope to obtain specific information about her situation as soon as possible and relieve her family of their worries.
Regarding the developments in Syria over the past few days, Baghaei also said: "Our position on this matter is clear; unpleasant and sad events are taking place in different regions of Syria, and we are deeply concerned about reports of violence and insecurity."
Regarding Europe's possible move to activate the trigger mechanism, the spokesman for the diplomatic service said: "We do not see any justification for activating the trigger mechanism, and it seems that other parties are also coming to the conclusion of what the consequences of using this tool are."
Regarding the continuation of consultations with the European Troika, he also emphasized: "Another round of our talks with Europe will be held in March before the end of this year, at the expert level; talks with three European countries are ongoing on one of the important issues between the parties, namely the nuclear issue, and we have no restrictions on our talks with the Europeans."
Regarding Grossi's statements at the Board of Governors, Baghaei also said: "We regret that the Director General of the Agency repeats statements that are not technical and are purely political; this approach calls into question the Agency's technical position and complicates the issue."
He added: "According to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, there is no ban on uranium enrichment; at the same time, we adhered to inspections in parallel with the increase in enrichment, and the Agency also acknowledges this."
