Details of Egypt’s plan for the future of Gaza revealed
Al-Arabiya reported that Egypt’s plan for the future of the Gaza Strip emphasizes the so-called “two-state” solution as the basis for normalizing relations between the countries in the region and the Zionist regime.
According to the plan, Palestinian police forces trained by Egypt and Jordan will be responsible for providing security in Gaza, paving the way for the gradual return of the Palestinian Authority to the area.
It also proposes that a temporary committee of independent figures and technocrats under the supervision of the Palestinian Authority take over the administration of Gaza for a period of six months.
In another part of the plan, the possibility of deploying international peacekeeping forces in the Palestinian territories has been examined; the issue of weapons of resistance groups will also be negotiated through a specific and credible political process.
The file of reconstruction and refugees
The Egyptian plan also includes the creation of temporary housing for refugees in seven different areas and the establishment of a medium-term ceasefire with a specified duration.
In the first phase of reconstruction, called the "initial recovery period", three billion dollars will be allocated within six months for the restoration of infrastructure and housing.
According to estimates, the first phase of reconstruction of Gaza will last 2 years and will cost 20 billion dollars, while the second phase will last 2.5 years and will cost 30 billion dollars.
In total, the cost of reconstruction of Gaza is estimated at about 53 billion dollars and it has been proposed to establish a trust fund under international supervision to cover these costs.
International Conference and Opposition to the US Plan
Egypt also called for an international conference in Cairo in the near future to attract the necessary financial and political support for the reconstruction of Gaza.
This plan was proposed in a situation where Cairo has increased its diplomatic activities in recent weeks.
These measures were taken in response to the controversial plan of US President Donald Trump, which proposed that Gaza be placed under Washington's control and its residents be transferred to Egypt and Jordan.
This plan was met with strong opposition from Arab countries, who emphasized the need to provide alternative solutions; for this purpose, the heads of some Arab countries are scheduled to meet in Cairo today, March 4, to discuss the future of the Gaza Strip and to present an alternative proposal to the US President's plan to relocate the residents of this region.
