US police killed 1,365 citizens in 2024

1365 people were victims of police violence and fatal encounters in the US last year, the "Campaign for Zero", an organization supporting the fight against police brutality, recently published this statistic.
The survey showed that most of these people, more than half of whom were between the ages of 20 and 40, had called 911 for police help.
The increase comes as momentum for reforming the US police system is waning five years after the killing of George Floyd in 2020, and Trump is ending initiatives aimed at reducing police misconduct.
An examination of the characteristics of these victims showed that in 70 percent of cases, they suffered from symptoms of mental illness.
Such as the case of Sonia Massey, a black woman from Illinois who suffered from paranoid schizophrenia, who called the police to report that someone had entered her property and was shot three times by the police.
Studies also indicate racial discrimination by the US police when it comes to violence; for example, in Chicago, black residents are more than 30 times more likely to be killed than whites.
