Nearly Half of Germans Support Sending Troops to Ukraine

A new poll conducted by the Forsa polling agency for Stern magazine found that 49 percent of Germans support sending peacekeepers to Ukraine.
According to the poll, 44 percent of Germans are against sending peacekeepers to Ukraine, while 7 percent have no opinion.
Support for sending troops to Ukraine varied between East and West Germany, with 52 percent of Germans in the west supporting the deployment, while 65 percent in the east opposed it.
The Forsa poll also found that 83 percent of supporters of the far-right Alternative for Germany party, which has close ties to the new US administration, are also against sending troops to Ukraine. The Forsa poll was conducted on February 13 and 14.
According to the report, a spokesman for the German Defense Ministry did not rule out the possibility of sending peacekeepers to Ukraine on Monday, saying the country's future government would decide on the matter.
Germans will go to the polls next Sunday to elect members of the country's new parliament.
