Zionist regime turns UNRWA health centers into detention centers
According to the UNRWA report, on February 12 (February 24), Israeli security forces used the UNRWA health center in the Al-Aroub camp near Bethlehem as a temporary detention center during inspection and arrest operations in the West Bank.
They forcibly entered the health center and used it to arrest and interrogate dozens of Palestinians who had gathered in the camp.
The Palestinian Relief and Employment Agency stressed: This is a new development in the blatant disregard for the security of UN facilities; unfortunately, this latest incident follows the pattern of forced entry by Israeli security forces into UNRWA facilities in the West Bank since October 2023.
The UNRWA statement said: “All UN premises are inviolable and must be protected under international law.”
Since January 30 (11 Bahman) and the implementation of Knesset laws, including the policy of no contact between UNRWA and Israeli authorities, the agency has no longer been able to interact with the Israeli regime and directly report and resolve such incidents if they occur.
The UNRWA ban law passed by the Israeli Knesset took effect on January 30, 2025; this action means depriving thousands of Palestinians of medical care and education.
The Israeli regime’s move to implement the UNRWA ban law came amid strong protests and criticism of the Israeli Knesset’s decision.
Established in 1949 by the adoption of UN Resolution 149 and beginning its work in 1950, UNRWA provides medical services to at least 70,000 Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem and runs schools for the education of thousands of Palestinian students.
