Torture of the Director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza in Israeli Prisons
The family of Dr. Hussam Abu Safia, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, reported the deterioration of his physical condition in the Israeli prison.
According to Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed, the family of Hussam Abu Safia announced that he was severely tortured and starved in the Israeli prisons.
According to the statement of the family of the Palestinian doctor, Abu Safia’s lawyer informed them that after the Israeli regime severely mistreated the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in the first 24 hours of his detention, he was transferred to the notorious Ofer prison, where the persecution of the Palestinian doctor continued.
Abu Safia's family, citing his lawyer, announced that there is no indictment against the Palestinian doctor and that he has so far denied all charges as baseless and unsubstantiated.
The lawyer for the head of Kamal Adwan Hospital also reported the Zionist regime's disregard for Abu Safia's need to receive care and treatment for his heart condition.
Abu Safia's lawyer, pointing out that there is a possibility that he will be released in the next round of Palestinian prisoner exchanges with Zionist prisoners within the framework of the ceasefire agreement, said: Abu Safia has called on the world to work for his release and all the detained medical staff and to help protect them.
Al-Mizan Center for Human Rights, while condemning the Zionist regime's actions against Hossam Abu Safia, called for his immediate release and the rest of the medical staff.
The center also called on the international community to fulfill its moral and legal responsibilities regarding the torture of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons and the abuse, rape, and acts to which the prisoners are subjected.
Al-Mizan also called on the international community to take action to save the lives of Palestinian prisoners who are at risk of death from torture and deprivation of their most basic rights.
Kamal Adwan Hospital was one of the few medical centers in the northern Gaza province that was able to continue operating after the Zionist regime intensified its criminal campaign against hospitals and medical centers.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the Israeli army raided Kamal Adwan Hospital on December 26, 2024. During the raid, the Israeli soldiers set the hospital on fire and arrested more than 350 people, including Hussam Abu Safiya.
