Pentagon considering withdrawing all US troops from Syria

Two Defense Department officials told NBC News that the plan comes as President Donald Trump and his aides seek to reduce the military presence in Syria.
U.S. forces are likely to begin planning for a withdrawal within the next 30 to 90 days.
The decision comes after intelligence that Trump's new national security adviser, Mike Waltz, received last week from U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) in Florida.
In late 2019, Trump ordered then-Defense Secretary James Mattis to withdraw all U.S. troops from Syria. Mattis, however, opposed the order and resigned.
Trump withdrew most of the U.S. troops but later brought them back. The U.S. presence in Syria has remained ever since.
In December, the Pentagon announced that there were 2,000 troops in Syria, more than double the 900 the US military had stated in previous years.
