2,500 Palestinian children face death risk

According to Reuters, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for the immediate evacuation of these children from Gaza for medical treatment after meeting with doctors present in Gaza who said that 2,500 Gazan children are at imminent risk of death in the coming weeks.
He wrote on the social network X: 2,500 children should be evacuated immediately with guarantees that they can return to their families and communities.
The doctors in question were present in the area as volunteers during the 15-month war of the Israeli regime against Gaza, a besieged territory with a population of more than 2 million.
They protested the lack of a mechanism for evacuating children from Gaza within the framework of the ceasefire agreement.
One of these doctors told reporters: “About 2,500 children in Gaza are at imminent risk of death in the next few weeks; they will lose their lives today, tomorrow and the next few days.”
Referring to the case of a three-year-old child with burns on his arm, he said: “Most of these children needed simple treatments, but their condition worsened because they were not treated; this same three-year-old boy is at risk of amputation because his burns did not heal.”
Another of these doctors, stating that there are no prostheses and rehabilitation for amputee children in Gaza, emphasized: “The only chance for these children to survive is medical evacuation.”
The doctor said: “Unfortunately, current security restrictions do not allow children to travel with more than one caregiver.”
The World Health Organization announced before the ceasefire in Gaza that 5,383 patients had been evacuated with the organization’s support since the war began in October 2023 (Mehr 1402), most of them in the first seven months before the closure of the Rafah crossing between Egypt and Gaza.
