Greenlanders oppose annexation to the United States

The Danish newspaper Berlingske wrote in this regard that the latest poll shows that 85 percent of Greenlanders do not want their Arctic Island to become part of the United States.
The Danish newspaper added that only 6 percent of Greenlanders are in favor of annexation to the US, and the remaining 9 percent have not yet made a decision on this matter.
In a previous statement earlier this month, US President Donald Trump stated that Denmark should relinquish control of Greenland, a strategically significant and vital island for American security.
Denmark said it would invest 14.6 billion kroner ($2.04 billion) to bolster its military presence in the Arctic in response to Trump's assertion.
Mute Agde, the prime minister of Greenland, has emphasized time and again that the island cannot be negotiated and that its future will be determined by its people.
Reports indicate that the US military has a permanent presence at the Pitofik space base in northwest Greenland. The base is a strategic location for the ballistic missile early warning system, as the shortest route from Europe to North America passes through the island.
Greenland is a semi-autonomous region of Denmark, and Trump's attempt to dominate the region has caused concern in Denmark and European countries.
