Israel, the world’s number one enemy of journalists
In its Tuesday report, December 8, 2025, RSF described 2025 as a deadly year for journalists, noting that half of the journalists killed this year were victims of the Israeli regime.
According to the RSF website, at least 53 of the 67 journalists killed last year were victims of war or criminal networks.
Nearly half (43%) of journalists killed over the past 12 months were massacred by Israel in Gaza; Sudan has also emerged as an extremely deadly war zone for journalists.
RSF warned that Israel accounted for nearly half of the world’s journalist deaths this year, having killed 29 Palestinian journalists in Gaza, bringing the global total to 67.
The number of journalists killed worldwide in 2024 was reported as 66. According to RSF, since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023, nearly 220 journalists have been killed, and Israel has become the deadliest perpetrator of journalist killings in the world for the third consecutive year.
The organization described Israel as the worst enemy of journalists.
Foreign journalists are still unable to travel to Gaza unless they are part of fully controlled tours organized by the Israeli military.
