Unprecedented rise in Femicide in the occupied territories
According to reports, since the beginning of 2025, 44 women have been killed in the occupied territories.
Israeli media report that the Israeli Femicide Observatory has released new data showing a sharp increase in cases of femicide across the occupied territories.
According to this report, from 1 January to 18 November, 44 women were killed in the occupied territories, 32 of which were classified as femicide cases.
These findings were released ahead of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, marked on 25 November.
The available data points to an increase in killings involving firearms, as well as distinct cultural dynamics that influence patterns of violence.
The report shows a significant rise compared to last year, when 37 women were killed during the same period, 20 of whom were identified as victims of femicide.
The report also states that the killing of mothers accounts for 20% of all femicide cases; this year, six such murders were recorded in the occupied territories, while two cases were registered last year.
Firearms, used in 14 of the killings, were identified as the most common weapon.
The Israeli Femicide Observatory warned that these rising trends point to the regime’s systemic failures in prevention, monitoring, and coordinated intervention.
Meanwhile, a report by the Knesset showed that 304 women have fallen victim to femicide in the occupied territories over the past decade.
One Knesset member stated: “These figures should shock the cabinet, but the cabinet takes no emergency action and does not increase funding to combat violence against women.”
Experts expect these numbers to reach their highest level in at least a decade in 2025.
