Tension between Israel’s War Minister and the IDF chief of staff
Channel 12 of the Israeli regime reported on Monday that Israel Katz, the War Minister, has decided to halt all military dismissals and appointments for one month and to reassess the “Targeman Committee’s” review of the army’s investigation into the October 7, 2023 attack.
The “Targeman Committee” is an official internal military body tasked with evaluating the performance of commanders and military institutions during major incidents, including the October 7, 2023 operation.
Based on the committee’s preliminary findings, Eyal Zamir, the IDF Chief of Staff, decided to dismiss several senior military commanders due to their failures in confronting the events of October 7.
However, Channel 12 now reports that after the war minister learned of Zamir’s decision—particularly the dismissals—through the media, he was taken aback and ordered an immediate freeze on all military appointments and dismissals.
According to the reports, among the senior figures dismissed yesterday on Zamir’s orders were Aharon Haliva, head of Military Intelligence; Yaron Finkelman, commander of the Southern Command; and Oudi Bassiyuk, head of the IDF Operations Directorate.
