Conclusion of judicial investigation into the death of an Iranian youth in South Africa

According to the request issued under the Mutual Legal Assistance Agreement in criminal matters between Iran and South Africa, the judicial authorities of that country examined the case and delivered the final results of their investigation into the death of the Iranian youth in the city of Mossel Bay.

This case dates back several months, when the family of a young Iranian man filed a complaint with judicial authorities, stating that their son—who had traveled to the city of Mossel Bay with a South African national with whom he intended to live—had died suddenly and under suspicious circumstances in that country.

After the complaint was filed, the International Affairs Division of Iran’s Judiciary, relying on the existing judicial cooperation agreement between the Islamic Republic of Iran and South Africa, formally submitted a request for judicial cooperation to the South African authorities. The request sought clarification on the exact cause of death and an investigation into the possible involvement of the young man’s South African fiancée.

Based on follow-ups conducted by experts of the division and according to the official response received, the death of the Iranian youth was determined and confirmed to have resulted from a motorcycle accident. The cause of death was reported as injuries caused by a severe blow to the chest, and the court of the mentioned city found no individual responsible in connection with the incident.

The results of South Africa’s judicial investigation have been forwarded to Iranian judicial authorities for further action regarding the case.
