Arrest and transfer of a security convict to prison for failing to return after leave
Following claims circulated regarding the alleged arrest of a security convict at a relative’s home “without prior notice,” official inquiries have shown that these claims are false. The convict’s leave—granted with judicial approval solely for attending his brother’s funeral—ended on Sunday. Despite repeated follow-ups, the individual failed to return to prison as required.
After the death of the convict’s brother, he was granted temporary leave with the approval of the judicial authority. On the day the leave was granted, both the convict and his guarantor were explicitly informed that the leave was only for attending the funeral and that he must report back to prison on Sunday, November 2.
However, despite being aware of the deadline, the convict refused to return to prison. Multiple calls were made to him and his family members, but none were answered.
In one phone conversation, the guarantor promised to return the convict to prison “at the earliest opportunity.”
Nevertheless, despite repeated follow-ups and full awareness of the expiration of his leave, the convict left Tehran and traveled to a northern city. Judicial officers, acting in accordance with legal procedures, subsequently arrested and transferred him back to prison.
