Trump backs violent crackdown on migrants
In an interview with CBS on Monday, Trump claimed that many of the foreign migrants targeted in recent raids were “killers and criminals” who “should have been deported.”
The remarks come amid widespread criticism of U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement (ICE) agents, whose harsh treatment of migrants — most of whom, as the CBS host noted, are “gardeners, childcare workers, and construction laborers, not criminals” — has sparked protests nationwide.
Referring to the raids on homes and vehicles, Trump said the operations “weren’t enough” and blamed others in his administration for preventing tougher crackdowns.
When pressed by the host that most of those deported had no history of violent or criminal behavior, Trump responded that they could “reapply to enter the United States” after being forcibly removed.
