Widespread public dissatisfaction with Trump and Republicans
According to the CBS poll released on Sunday, most Americans are dissatisfied with how the government shutdown is being handled, and dissatisfaction with President Donald Trump and the Republican Party has increased.
The poll found that 39% of Americans blame Trump and the Republicans for the shutdown, 30% blame the Democrats, and 31% hold both parties responsible.
The majority of Americans describe the Democratic Party as “weak” and the Republican Party as “extreme.” 64% believe Trump’s policies have driven up food prices, and 750,000 federal employees have been forced into unpaid leave. The survey also shows that Trump faces a 58% disapproval rating.
U.S. News reported that on Saturday, 42 million Americans in need—including over 15 million children—would go hungry if government food assistance is not provided.
The SNAP program, formerly known as food stamps, serves as a lifeline for one in eight Americans and millions of working families. About 70% of adults who received supplemental food benefits last year were employed full-time, yet still struggled to afford food.
