Trump’s popularity plummets among young Americans
According to the latest Economist/YouGov survey, public approval of Trump’s job performance has dropped to its lowest point since the start of his second presidency. Only 39% of Americans approve of the president’s performance, while 58% disapprove.
This 19-point negative gap marks Trump’s lowest net approval rating of his second term, although his approval had previously fallen to 39% on several occasions.
Last week, Trump’s net approval stood at –17% (39% approval vs. 56% disapproval). A week earlier, it was –15% (40% approval vs. 55% disapproval), and at the beginning of October, it again fell to –17%.
Researchers at YouGov noted that Trump’s –19% net approval in this latest survey is lower than nearly all polls conducted during his first term (except one).
The data indicates that approval of Trump has declined across all age groups, but the steepest drop is among younger voters. Among Americans aged 18–29, only 20% approve of his performance, while 75% disapprove — a striking 55-point negative margin.
This represents a dramatic shift from February (one month after Trump entered the White House), when his net approval among young voters was +8% (50% approve, 42% disapprove).
