Gaza trapped under 55 million tons of rubble and threatening objects
Tariq Shaheen, the mayor of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, stated that about 2 million tons of debris need to be cleared to reopen main roads and streets in the Gaza Strip.
He added that this cleanup is currently impossible due to the occupiers’ refusal to allow heavy equipment and machinery into the area.
According to Shehab News, the mayor of Deir al-Balah also emphasized the urgent need for hundreds of trucks to speed up the removal of debris outside Gaza. He noted that hundreds of “suspicious objects” are scattered across homes and streets, posing significant danger, and stressed that, due to a lack of necessary resources, collecting and neutralizing these objects is currently not feasible.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Abu Salmiya, director of Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza, said that there has been no fundamental improvement in the catastrophic health and medical situation in the Gaza Strip.
In an interview with Al Jazeera, he emphasized that despite the declared cessation of hostilities, Gaza’s health system remains in a critical condition, with hospitals facing severe shortages of medicines, medical equipment, and fuel.
Abu Salmiya also noted that freed Palestinian prisoners, due to torture and mistreatment in Israeli detention centers, require special medical and psychological care.
The director of Al-Shifa Medical Complex added that, so far, there have been no tangible achievements in providing medicines and healthcare services in Gaza, and international organizations have failed to effectively alleviate the humanitarian crisis.
