Drone attack on Eilat tourist area in occupied territories
A drone hit Eilat Port this afternoon, targeting a tourist area, according to Israeli news sources. Some settler media outlets reported that the drone, allegedly Yemeni, struck the Club Hotel, one of the most luxurious hotels in the Middle East.
So far, seven people have been reported injured by the strike. Other sources report that 19 people were injured, two of them critically.
The Israeli Army Radio stated that an investigation has now begun into the failure to intercept the drone. According to the same source, two interceptor missiles were fired from the Iron Dome system but failed to hit the target.
Israeli sources also reported that warning sirens sounded across the occupied territories for 13 minutes, indicating that efforts to track and destroy the drone were unsuccessful despite early detection and missile launches.
This comes even though the Israeli military had previously stated that laser defense systems were deployed in the southern occupied territories.
