Verbal clash between London mayor and Trump
In his recent address to the UN General Assembly, Trump once again criticized the London mayor’s leadership, claiming the British capital is run by a “terrible mayor.”
He said: “Look at London — a city with a terrible mayor. The city has changed, changed a lot. Now they want to move toward implementing Sharia, but they can’t do that.”
Responding to these remarks in an interview with Sky News, Khan said: “Trump has shown himself to be racist, misogynist, and Islamophobic. The question for the public is why the U.S. president is so sensitive about a Muslim mayor in a free, multicultural, progressive city like London and keeps attacking me. It seems, without reason, I occupy his mind.”
He added: “When someone repeatedly makes such remarks and behaves in this way, we must accept that this outlook is deeply ingrained in him.”
During his recent trip to the UK, Trump had also accused Khan of being responsible for rising crime in London and described his immigration policies as “disastrous.”
The London mayor’s office responded sharply, issuing a statement saying: “London is the safest city compared to major U.S. metropolises, and we welcome the growing number of Americans choosing to move here.”
