Death of the first Israeli soldier in Operation Gideon 2
The daily Yedioth Ahronoth reported that a major in the Golani Brigade, who was involved in the expanded phase of the operation, lost his life after being wounded when his tank was struck by an RPG.
The Israeli army spokesperson stated that this is the first fatality in the second stage of Operation Gideon 2 aimed at occupying Gaza City.
According to the army, more forces from the 36th Division have entered Gaza City in the past 24 hours to continue the siege of Hamas’s Gaza Brigade and the destruction of Palestinian groups’ infrastructure.
This offensive includes bombing underground targets, Palestinian group bases, operational houses, as well as engineering efforts to facilitate the safer entry of Israeli forces.
A few days earlier, four Israeli soldiers were also killed in Rafah after a bomb struck their military vehicle in the Al-Jnina neighborhood of the southern Gaza city.
The Israeli army has expanded its ground operations in Gaza City since midweek as part of its plan to fully occupy the area, forcing all residents to evacuate.
Israel’s Channel 12 TV reported that the death toll among Israeli officers and soldiers since the start of the war on Gaza has reached 911.
