100 U.S. lawmakers back halting deadly arms transfers to Israel
For the first time in history, the CPC — one of the largest caucuses in Congress — has voted in favor of a bill to suspend U.S. arms transfers to Israel amid its ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip.
Representing nearly 100 members in the House of Representatives, the CPC has endorsed the “Block the Bombs Act,” which halts the transfer of bunker-buster bombs, 2,000-pound bombs, JDAMs, 120mm tank rounds, and 155mm artillery shells until Israel ends its human rights violations in Gaza.
According to Anadolu Agency, CPC Chair Greg Casar said in a statement: “The United States cannot continue sending bombs that we know are being used to commit horrific atrocities in Gaza.”
The initiative, led by Delia Ramirez, Representative from Illinois, focuses on the most destructive weapons systems being used in Gaza.
Ramirez stated: “The Block the Bombs Act is the first step toward oversight and accountability for the killing of children with U.S.-made weapons funded by American taxpayers. In the face of authoritarian leaders committing genocide, halting weapons transfers is the least Congress must do.”
