Araghchi’s account of Iran’s proposal to Europe
Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, posted on X: “On behalf of the Islamic Republic of Iran, yesterday I presented a reasonable and practical plan to my European counterparts in order to prevent an unnecessary and avoidable crisis in the coming days.”
He added: “However, instead of addressing the substance of this plan, Iran is now facing a series of excuses and blatant evasions — including the absurd claim that the Foreign Ministry does not represent the entirety of the country’s political structure.”
Araghchi said: “I am pleased that President Macron acknowledged that the proposal I submitted is reasonable. But he and the international community must understand that I enjoy the full support of all pillars of the Islamic Republic of Iran, including the Supreme National Security Council.”
He emphasized: “Perhaps the truth is that it is in fact Europe’s diplomatic machinery that is on the sidelines.”
The Foreign Minister continued: “It is now time for the UN Security Council to step in and replace confrontation with diplomacy. The danger is at its highest level.”
He stated that Iran has already done its part:
1. Signing an agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), aligned with our domestic and international obligations, which — despite the illegal bombing of safeguarded Iranian nuclear facilities — has opened a new chapter of cooperation with the Agency.
2. Presenting a creative, fair, and balanced proposal that addresses genuine concerns and benefits both sides. Implementing this idea can happen quickly and, by resolving the core issues of disagreement, can prevent a crisis.
Araghchi concluded: “There is a way forward, but Iran cannot be the only actor carrying the burden of action.”
