Execution of Babak Shahbazi, Mossad spy, carried out
Shahbazi, son of Rahmollah, was active as a contractor in the field of designing and installing industrial cooling systems for companies affiliated with telecommunications, military, and security organizations.
At the end of 2021, he became acquainted in a virtual group with Esmaeil Fekri, who was himself executed on June 15, 2025, on charges of espionage and intelligence cooperation with the Zionist regime, convicted of moharebeh (waging war against God) and corruption on earth. Given Shahbazi’s specialization in designing and installing industrial cooling systems—particularly in facilities hosting sensitive servers—and Fekri’s expertise in computer networks, Shahbazi invited him to collaborate on several projects.
Due to his work, Shahbazi had access to key national infrastructure in the telecommunications, military, and security sectors, including knowledge of the specifications of data centers. He decided to sell this information to Mossad in exchange for money and foreign residency. However, fearing exposure, he involved Esmaeil Fekri, citing his greater computer expertise and English fluency, and paid him for assistance.
Shahbazi asked Fekri to reach out to Israel-affiliated online platforms and propose selling information on senior Iranian officials, including their locations and movements. He also requested personal and family security guarantees, permanent U.S. residency, and a payment of $120 million in cash or cryptocurrency.
In February 2022, at the request of a Mossad officer, a Skype meeting was held with Shahbazi and Fekri, during which they were interrogated for one hour. In this session, the Mossad officer assured Shahbazi that all collaborators were under full protection of the service, and before any harm could reach them or their families, Mossad would extract them safely from Iran.
In a second Skype call, Shahbazi claimed he possessed access cards to certain sensitive facilities and that his vehicle was not subject to inspection, allowing him to potentially smuggle a bomb into targeted centers, which Mossad could later detonate.
Independent contacts with Mossad
Subsequently, Shahbazi established direct contact with four Mossad officers using pseudonyms—Shmuel (Sami), Benjamin, Michael, and a technical officer—through whom he received training and transmitted intelligence. On a weekly basis, he provided precise details of projects, including their type, staffing, access procedures, key personnel, technical aspects, strengths, and vulnerabilities.
According to his confessions, Mossad instructed him to retrieve a hidden package containing money and equipment.
Training by Mossad
Shahbazi received detailed training from Mossad, including instructions on secrecy in communications, protocols in case of arrest, destroying documents when threatened, emergency escape methods, cover stories, and handling of concealed packages.
Following guidance from Shmuel, in April 2022 he acquired a tablet with specifications dictated by Mossad and activated it using the seller’s SIM card for security. Michael, another Mossad officer, trained him step by step in secure communications using the tablet.
After learning of Esmaeil Fekri’s arrest in late autumn 2023, Shahbazi, on Mossad’s instructions, smashed the tablet with a stone and disposed of it in the Karaj River along the Chalus Road.
Upon arrest, he admitted that his primary motives were financial gain and foreign residency, and confirmed that he had received payments in cryptocurrency for his cooperation with Mossad.
His case was referred to court on charges of collaboration with hostile foreign states against the Islamic Republic of Iran, espionage, intelligence and security cooperation in favor of the Zionist regime, and transmission of sensitive information.
The court, after legal proceedings and with the presence of the defendant’s lawyer, convicted Babak Shahbazi of ifsad fil-arz (corruption on earth) through moharebeh and sentenced him to death.
The defendant’s lawyer appealed, but the Supreme Court rejected the request, upheld the lower court’s ruling, and confirmed the death sentence.
The sentence, after Supreme Court approval, was carried out by hanging this morning (September 17, 2025).
