Majority of Germans support EU sanctions against Israel
According to the poll conducted by Der Spiegel magazine, 63 percent of voters backed the European Commission’s proposed measures to sanction Israel, while only 29 percent opposed them.
The strongest support came from the opposition Green Party, with 94 percent of its voters in favor and only 5 percent against EU sanctions on Israel for its actions in Gaza.
Among voters of the ruling Christian Democratic Union (CDU), around 63 percent supported the sanctions, while 30 percent opposed them.
Similarly, 68 percent of Social Democratic Party (SPD) voters favored EU sanctions on Israel, with just 25 percent voicing opposition.
Support was also expressed by 67 percent of voters of the opposition Left Party, compared to 28 percent who were against.
Meanwhile, 49 percent of voters for the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party supported sanctions against Israel, while 51 percent opposed them.
Recently, Germany rejected the European Commission’s proposal to partially suspend Israel’s participation in the Horizon Europe research funding program.
