Leaked IDF document admits Gaza operation Failed
The leak contradicts claims by the IDF chief of staff, who had declared the campaign a victory. According to the document, the military made a strategic miscalculation during the war, giving Hamas an opening to claim success.
The report notes that the operation’s main objectives were not met: Hamas was not defeated, and the hostages were not freed.
Operation Gideon’s Chariots was launched on May 19, 2025, following a plan approved earlier in the month to seize Gaza. The IDF said at the time that it had attacked more than 670 Hamas targets in both northern and southern Gaza, killing dozens.
But the leaked document cites several reasons for the failure: reliance on deterrence without decisive action, the breakdown of the aid distribution system, slow operational progress, and shortages of manpower and equipment. It also highlights Hamas’s effective use of guerrilla warfare as a key factor.
