Official start of disarmament of Palestinian camps in southern Lebanon
According to the official Lebanese news agency, the army has started collecting weapons from Palestinian camps in the city of Tyre. This operation covers the Rashidieh, Al-Bass, and Burj al-Shimali camps in the Tyre area.
The report states that seven trucks carrying light weapons and B7 missiles were taken from these camps and delivered to the 2nd Special Forces Regiment barracks in the Al-Shawakir area in southern Lebanon. This regiment is responsible for special, emergency, and intervention operations in Lebanon’s sensitive areas.
Russia Today also reported that, as part of the Lebanese Army’s plan to centralize weapons under government control and collect arms from Palestinian camps, the army received weapon shipments from the Fatah movement.
About a week ago, media sources stated that some Palestinian groups in Lebanon’s refugee camps had handed over part of their weapons to the Lebanese Army. This action was carried out under an agreement announced several months ago between the Lebanese government and the Palestinian Authority to collect arms from the camps.
The first stage of this plan began on Thursday, August 21, with the removal of a van carrying light weapons from the Burj al-Barajneh refugee camp in southern Beirut.
