Talks among Netanyahu’s opponents on replacing the Israeli cabinet
Avigdor Lieberman, head of the Yisrael Beiteinu party, in a letter to Yair Lapid, leader of the opposition, called for a meeting with opposition party leaders, along with former prime minister Naftali Bennett and former Knesset member Gadi Eisenkot, to discuss drafting the main framework of a future cabinet.
According to the report, Lieberman noted in his letter that Israeli officials must form an alternative to the current cabinet, with the next general elections scheduled for October 2026.
Lieberman wrote: “I believe that especially in this period, we have a duty to show responsibility and act together for the sake of strengthening public trust and building a better future for all of Israel.”
The letter indicates that Lieberman seeks to position himself as a leading figure in what he calls a “new change bloc” ahead of the next elections.
Meanwhile, Channel 13 in Hebrew reported that Naftali Bennett and Avigdor Lieberman have already discussed ways to replace the cabinet as soon as possible.
This move comes amid ongoing debates among Netanyahu’s opponents. Previously, Benny Gantz had proposed forming a “rescue cabinet” aimed at ending the war, securing the release of Israeli prisoners, and setting a timetable for elections in spring 2026.
