Two police officers killed in shooting in Australia
Australia’s ABC network reported on Tuesday that the shooting occurred at a rural property in “Porepunkah,” in the northeast of Victoria state. Victoria is located in southeastern Australia.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene in this town, about 300 kilometers northeast of Melbourne, while the suspect remains at large. Victoria Police said in a statement that the attacker had since left the property and his current whereabouts are unknown.

The statement added: “A significant search is actively underway to locate this man. We urge the public in and around Porepunkah to remain in their homes until further notice.”
Sources told ABC that the officers were executing a warrant related to “historical sexual offenses” at the time of the shooting.
Gun crimes are relatively rare in Australia, as the country has some of the world’s strictest firearm regulations.
