Trump’s popularity falls to lowest level of his presidency
The Reuters–Ipsos poll released Monday shows U.S. President Donald Trump’s approval rating has remained at 40% in recent weeks—matching the lowest level of his current term—while Hispanic voters have given him especially poor marks.
The six-day survey was conducted amid signs of weakness in the U.S. labor market and while Trump oversaw a sweeping crackdown on immigrants, even as he engaged in intensive diplomacy to try to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Trump’s approval rating has not changed since a late-July Reuters–Ipsos poll, but it has fallen 7 points from January, when 47% of Americans supported him at the start of his return to the White House.
The latest survey also revealed that Hispanics—a group that leaned somewhat toward Trump in last year’s election—have now turned against him. Only 32% approve of his performance in the White House, the lowest level of Hispanic support for him this year.
More than half of respondents (54%), including one-fifth of Republicans, said they believe Trump is too close to Russia, even as he has intensified efforts to mediate peace between Moscow and Kyiv.
In addition, only 42% of respondents approved of Trump’s handling of crime, while 43% said he was doing a good job on immigration. Across all policy areas, Trump’s strongest backing continues to come primarily from Republicans.
