Hamas agrees to Gaza ceasefire proposal
According to Al Jazeera, Hamas announced its approval of the Egyptian plan today after holding a joint meeting with Egyptian and Qatari delegations in Cairo.
A Hamas source told Al Jazeera: “We conveyed our agreement with yesterday’s proposal to the mediators.”
Earlier, informed sources revealed that Egypt had presented a fresh initiative to halt the war in Gaza. According to these sources, the proposal contains elements aligned with the plan of U.S. Special Envoy for West Asia, Steve Witkoff, and could pave the way for further understandings.
Details of the proposal reportedly include several key points:
- The release of 10 Israeli captives alive and the handover of 18 bodies of deceased captives,
- The entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza through international organizations such as the United Nations and the Red Cross,
- A 60-day ceasefire, and
- The launch of negotiations to permanently end the war, to begin concurrently with the ceasefire.
Meanwhile, Israeli network i24 News, citing sources in Cairo, reported that Hamas has informed mediators it is ready to accept the proposal without any changes.
At the same time, Palestinian sources told Al-Sharq that Hamas has begun internal consultations with leaders of Palestinian factions currently based in Cairo.
