30 Palestinians become disabled daily in Gaza
The human rights organization stated that the number of people with disabilities in the Gaza Strip has increased by approximately 35% over the 22 months of Israel’s destructive war compared to pre-war levels.
Out of 165,000 injured since the start of the current Israeli campaign against Gaza, the organization recorded 21,000 cases of permanent and temporary disability.
According to the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor, dozens of disabled individuals arrested by the Israeli army during its ground incursions into Gaza are enduring life-threatening detention and torture, with no information available about their fate.
The report further noted that Israeli forces are using highly destructive munitions in residential areas. Combined with targeting medical centers and obstructing the rescue of those trapped under rubble, this has led to the large number of injuries, disabilities, and amputations.
The organization emphasized that the rise in amputations is largely due to the collapse of Gaza’s healthcare system and the lack of timely medical treatment, forcing medical staff to prioritize critically injured patients.
Finally, the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor concluded that the unprecedented increase in disability rates reflects a deliberate strategy to harm the Palestinian population, representing one element of collective genocidal crimes against them.
