Deadly police shooting of a New Hampshire resident
The man who was killed last Tuesday following an hours-long standoff in New Hampshire has been identified, as prosecutors released more information about the cause of death.
The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office announced that David Ward, 57, of Keene, was killed by gunfire during an encounter with a state police team.
Five police officers fired at the American citizen, and it was not immediately clear what prompted the shooting.
The incident began when Keene police pulled over David Ward’s vehicle, though prosecutors have not disclosed the reason for the traffic stop.
Prosecutors say the man refused to drop his weapon and get out of his vehicle.
An autopsy revealed that he was struck by multiple bullets and died from his injuries.
According to prosecutors, none of the officers were injured. They are reviewing the incident, including footage recorded from an armored vehicle.
Keene police said last Wednesday that a TD Bank near the shooting scene remains closed amid the ongoing investigation; it was not immediately clear whether the bank was connected to the incident.
The New Hampshire Department of Justice, with assistance from the State Police Major Crimes Unit, is conducting the investigation. The names of the five officers involved in the shooting have not been released.
