The poll, conducted by the Forsa Institute for the German magazine International Politik, shows that, contrary to Berlin’s position of refusing to recognize Palestine, over half of Germans favor granting it statehood without delay.
According to the survey, 54% of respondents answered “yes” to the question: “Should Germany now recognize Palestine as a state?”
Only 31% of participants opposed the idea of recognizing Palestine as a state.
The findings also reveal that support for recognition stands at 53% in western Germany and 59% in the country’s eastern states.
In a separate recent survey by the Deutschland Trend institute, 66% of Germans said they expect their government to put more pressure on Israel to change its policy toward Gaza.
