Speaking to Al Jazeera, the OCHA spokesperson in Gaza highlighted the severe challenges in meeting the needs of the population, saying:
“We are facing extremely difficult conditions. We are trying to provide at least the minimum necessary aid, but only a very small amount of assistance is making it into Gaza.”
According to the UN official, delays in the entry of aid trucks due to stringent Israeli inspections have made the work of humanitarian staff in Gaza extremely difficult: “The delays caused by inspections are severely disrupting our operations.”
She also pointed to one of the tragic aspects of the humanitarian crisis in the region, noting that some civilians have lost their lives after being struck by airdropped aid packages falling from the sky.
