Judiciary spokesman: Attacks on prisons and hospitals are prohibited under international conventions

Asghar Jahangir, spokesperson for the Judiciary, offered his condolences on the martyrdom of several compatriots who were killed in recent days by the criminal Zionist regime and the United States in Tehran and across the country. He also expressed both congratulations and condolences for the martyrdom of brave IRGC commanders and nuclear scientists who were unjustly assassinated by the bloodthirsty regime.
Speaking about the Zionist regime’s attack on part of Evin Prison, he added: “In clear violation of all international laws, the Zionist regime carried out a brutal assault on a section of Evin Prison yesterday. According to international conventions and protocols, attacking facilities like hospitals, prisons, and civilian shelters is forbidden, and any country that commits such acts is deemed a war criminal.”
Jahangir continued: “This usurping regime has, over the years, consistently committed crimes against the people, and the lack of legal accountability has only emboldened it to escalate its brutality. However, in the recent attacks, it was met with the firm response of our brave Iranian warriors. The powerful IRGC has shown throughout the 11-day war that if the occupying Israeli regime makes any move, Iran will respond even more forcefully—with an iron fist and resolute strength—turning defense into offense and bringing the aggressor to its knees.”
The Judiciary spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, in yesterday’s attack by the Zionist regime on Evin Prison, part of the prison’s administrative building was destroyed. As a result, several of our compatriots, including administrative and judicial staff, civilians visiting during visiting hours, and even some inmates were injured. We also have martyrs from this attack, although we are still investigating the final toll.”
Commenting on the current status of Evin Prison, he said: “Yesterday, all law enforcement, judicial, and executive officials were present at the scene, necessary measures were taken, and there are currently no issues in Evin Prison. Some family members of staff, judiciary personnel, and inmates were concerned for their loved ones, but the Prisons Organization immediately implemented necessary measures and facilitated communication between prisoners and their families.”
Regarding the emergency meeting held last Friday by Judiciary officials with the head of the Judiciary, Jahangir explained: “Immediately after learning about this savage attack by the Zionist regime on Iranian soil, a meeting was held under the leadership of the head of the Judiciary, who issued special instructions for courts across the country. One of the key directives was to ensure that public services are not disrupted.”
Jahangir emphasized: “It was also decided to prepare for the establishment of special branches in prosecutors’ offices and courts nationwide to open legal cases against infiltrators aiding the child-killing regime, and to take necessary legal actions against them.”
He added: “The Judiciary chief stressed that while handling the cases of those arrested for collaborating with the disgraceful Zionist regime, the process must be thorough to avoid injustice, yet the cases must also be handled swiftly and decisively. The proceedings should take into account the wartime conditions we are facing, as this is an asymmetric war and we must mobilize all our resources in defense of this sacred cause.”
Jahangir concluded: “The enemy thought, through sudden and aggressive actions, it could drive people into the streets. Instead, it united the people in support of the system. Even those known as opposition figures abroad, critical of the system, stood by the people and the nation, and frustrated the enemy’s plans. This proves that whenever Iran, Islam, and the people are at stake, the Iranian nation—loving their revolution, homeland, and country—stands firm in defense of the ideals of Imam Khomeini and the Supreme Leader.”
