Zionist circles: War with Iran was a foolish mistake

As Iran continues its heavy retaliatory strikes against the Zionist regime in response to its aggressions—and with Israel's home front across occupied Palestine now fully exposed to Iranian missile fire, to the point that even shelters are insufficient—many Israeli voices are rising, warning of the dangerous consequences of continuing this war and demanding its end.
Hebrew-language circles, citing the high number of casualties and the vast destruction left in places like Tel Aviv and Haifa following Iranian attacks, are now questioning the goals and motivations of the occupying regime’s cabinet and military in launching a war against Iran, stating that these goals are unrealistic and unachievable.
In this context, Rogel Alpher, a Zionist writer and analyst for the Hebrew newspaper Haaretz, described Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's decision to go to war with Iran as a disastrous and foolish strategic mistake, driven by political and personal motives. He asserted that only blind and foolish Israeli individuals and media support this war.
He added: “The Israeli army, even with U.S. support, lacks the capability to destroy Iran’s nuclear program. It’s too late. Iran is on the brink of becoming a nuclear state, and Israel’s military tools for delaying Iran’s program are extremely limited. Even if Iran’s entire nuclear infrastructure were destroyed, it could be rebuilt within a year.”
He noted that using war and military threats as leverage to pressure Iran into concessions in talks with the U.S. is a failed strategy. “We clearly see the pressure mounting on Israeli public opinion. For example, drone images of areas like Gush Dan show scenes that resemble Kharkiv in Ukraine—or even the Gaza Strip.”
The analyst stated: “According to the Israeli army, this military campaign is expected to last several weeks, meaning Iran will continue launching ballistic missiles at Israel, resulting in more Israeli deaths, injuries, and loss of homes. The cabinet’s approved war scenario suggests officials are willing to sacrifice at least 4,000 Israeli lives for personal agendas. In essence, the message to Israelis is: your lives have no value.”
He concluded: “For Netanyahu’s dictatorial regime, the priority is to convert his domestic opponents into supporters, erase the disastrous failure of October 7, 2023, deflect attention from the Haredi crisis, push the issue of Israeli hostages in Gaza to the sidelines, expand apartheid against Palestinians, deepen the annexation of the West Bank, cancel elections, and keep Netanyahu in power.”
