Iran’s ambassador to the UN: Our response to the Zionist regime’s attack will be legal and decisive

On Friday evening local time, Iravani spoke to journalists about the emergency session of the Security Council, stating: “In this meeting, the Security Council addressed the brutal and criminal attacks by the Israeli regime against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
He emphasized: “We strongly and unequivocally condemn the illegal and terrorist military attack by the Israeli regime on Iran. The Israeli regime, the most lawless and violent regime in the world, carried out these brutal attacks with the full intelligence, operational, and political support of the United States government.”
Iran’s ambassador stated: “This action was not self-defense; it was a premeditated, unjustifiable, and completely illegal aggression.”
Iravani added: “The targets of the attack included peaceful nuclear facilities under IAEA safeguards, military bases, civilian infrastructure, and residential areas.”
Iran’s Permanent Representative to the UN said: “Iran has also been a victim of a systematic campaign of assassination targeting senior officials, scientists, and innocent civilians—a series of targeted killings that violate the fundamental principles of humanity.”
He announced: “So far, seventy-eight Iranians have been martyred, and more than 320 have been injured, the vast majority of whom are civilians, including women and children.”
Iravani further stated: “Let me be clear: the Israeli regime attacked nuclear facilities under safeguards. This was a criminal and reckless act that could have triggered a radiological catastrophe with consequences extending beyond Iran’s borders.”
Iran’s senior diplomat at the UN emphasized: “Such an attack not only violates the UN Charter, the IAEA Statute, and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty but also poses a direct threat to regional and global peace.”
He added: “This attack was not just against Iran; it was an attack on the international legal order, the United Nations, and every country that believes in the rule of law over the dominance of force.”
Iravani continued: “Israel has openly taken responsibility for this aggression, carried out with the active support of one of the permanent members of this Council, namely the United States. This aggression is tantamount to a declaration of war.”
Iran’s Ambassador to the UN asserted: “Iran will exercise its inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter. Our response will be legal, proportionate, and decisive, and it will be carried out at a time and in a manner of our choosing.”
He stressed: “The Security Council must act immediately to stop the aggressor from continuing its aggression; it must condemn this aggression; it must uphold its Charter obligations; and it must defend the rule of law.”
Iravani concluded: “It was the Israeli regime that attacked Iran. It was the Israeli regime that violated international law. The Israeli regime must be held accountable. Silence is not neutrality; silence is complicity in crime.”
