Yedioth Ahronoth: We are stuck in a quagmire

Yedioth Ahronoth likened the confrontations in Gaza between the Israeli army and Hamas to a quagmire where soldiers are easily targeted, as if they were "ducks in a shooting range."
Writer Ben-Dror Yemini discussed the futility of confrontations between a military army and forces employing guerrilla warfare tactics. He explained that Israel's only option is its own military plan, not Egypt's, but confrontations with irregular forces remain ineffective.
He added: "They hunt and pursue us, just as Abu Obeida, the military spokesperson for the Al-Qassam Brigades, said. Guerrilla warfare gives Hamas a structural advantage, as its fighters hide while Israeli soldiers are vulnerable to attack."
Noting that the Israeli regime witnessed the deaths of eight soldiers over the past week, he said: "Every day that passes without new casualties feels like relief, but each time new losses are announced, we sink into collective mourning."
The writer remarked: "The situation was painful in the first months of the war, but it has become even more painful as it continues. Israel is not truly at war. They are deceiving us. We are stuck in a quagmire, and our soldiers are being hunted like ducks. The fact that the bombardment continues and Palestinians are killed daily no longer improves our situation; it makes it worse. The political damage far outweighs any military gains."
