Trump’s hardline policy targets Chinese students for deportation
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the United States will begin aggressively revoking the visas of Chinese students, including those linked to the Chinese Communist Party or studying in sensitive fields.
According to Reuters, if this decision is applied broadly to the hundreds of thousands of Chinese students at U.S. universities, it could disrupt a significant source of income for American higher education institutions and a critical pathway for attracting elite talent to U.S. technology companies.
The report states that, in line with its stringent immigration policy, the Trump administration is seeking to increase deportations and visa cancellations. Rubio announced in a statement that the U.S. State Department will review visa issuance criteria to enhance scrutiny and oversight of future visa applications from China and Hong Kong.
He added: "The U.S. State Department, in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security, will vigorously pursue the process of revoking the visas of Chinese students."
